Quick Start Guide to Mac OS X & doubleTwist Pro v3 AirSync syncing (In-App Purchase)

Twister OS for Raspberry Pi and other SBCs, and Twister UI for PC. Enjoy the same experience on all supported devices. How can I upgrade or 'hack' an incompatible Intel Mac to run OS X 10.8 'Mountain Lion'? Is it even possible? As noted elsewhere within EveryMac.com's Mountain Lion Q&A, Mountain Lion entirely drops support for many 'older' Macs, some of which were sold as new only a little over three years ago. Okay so before anyone bashes me for playing DS3 on a mac (yuck I know) but Im overseas doing an internship for 3 month and I have left my baby (gtx 1080, 4k monitor beauty) behind. Now Im on a mac for the time being but 1 month without DS3 is killing me. So I've already used bootcamp to get a windows 10 operating system or w/e.

This is the QuickStart guide for purchasing doubleTwist Pro v3 (which includes AirSync) from within the doubleTwist Player app.

Since AirSync uses WiFi, please make sure that your Android device is connected to the same network as your Mac. Your Mac can be using either a wired Ethernet connection or a WiFi connection but it needs to be on the same network segment so it can communicate with your Android device.
Please check that your network doesn't block communication between devices. This is a very common security restriction for university, hotel, and corporate networks.
Also, for best results, please make sure that your Android device has a very stable connection with a signal strength of 'Excellent' or 'Very Good' and a link speed of 30Mbps or faster. Otherwise, the sync connection can be lost or sync speeds can be very slow.

  1. Download and install doubleTwist Player for your Android device. The Android screenshots will vary from device to device.
    1. Search for “doubleTwist” in the Google Play Store. Select 'doubleTwist Musc & Podcast Player & Sync' from the results and tap on 'INSTALL' to begin the installation process.
    2. Tap on 'INSTALL' to download and install on your device. Tap on 'OPEN' and then tap on 'ALLOW' on the initial dialog so the app can access files on your device.
  2. Purchase doubleTwist Pro (or AirSync) upgrade.
    1. To upgrade to doubleTwist Pro, tap on the 'UPGRADE' banner in the Nav Drawer. If the Nav Drawer has been closed, you can slide it back out by tapping on the 3-horizontal line 'hamburger' icon in the upper left.
    2. The doubleTwist Store will appear. You can purchase doubleTwist Pro (or a discounted doubleTwist Pro Upgrade if you've previously purchased any other upgrades). You can also purchase just the AirSync upgrade, which will only allow wireless syncing and AirPlay streaming.
    3. Tap on 'doubleTwist Pro' and then 'BUY' to Google Play dialog that will appear to purchase the upgrade. You may need to enter your account password as confirmation.
    4. After the purchase has been successfully processed, the item will show as 'PURCHASED' in the Store. All purchases are tied to the account used to purchase. If you ever need to reinstall or install on a new device, just make sure that the device has the same primary/first account that was used to purchase and your purchase will automatically unlock and be available for use.
  3. Next, download and install doubleTwist for Mac OSX. OSX 10.5 (or higher) and an Intel x86 processor is required.
    1. After downloading, the disk image will auto-mount and you will get the installer window. Drag doubleTwist into your Applications folder
    2. Double click on the Applications folder and then launch doubleTwist.
    3. You may see a “application downloaded from the Internet” warning. Click “Open” to continue.
    4. The End User License Agreement dialog box will pop up. Please read through it carefully and then click “Accept” to continue if you accept the terms of the agreement.
  4. On first launch, doubleTwist will scan and import your iTunes library into the doubleTwist library.
    1. In this example, in iTunes there are two albums. doubleTwist will now also have access to these two albums.
    2. To import your iTunes playlists, click on “Playlist Setup” in the left hand navigation bar. Then click on “Import iTunes Playlists” in the main navigation area.
    3. Your iTunes playlists will then be imported.
  5. Next, let’s setup AirSync. Please ensure that both your Android device and computer are connected to the same network.
    1. Go back into doubleTwist Pro and bring out the Nav Drawer by tapping on the 3-horizontal line 'hamburger' icon in the upper left. Then scroll down to find 'Settings'.
    2. The AirSync passcode will be shown in the 'AirSync' section. This passcode is randomly generated. You can tap on the code to generate a new random pairing code.
    3. Your Android device should now appear in the left hand navigation area of the computer application with an AirSync logo next to it.
      If it does not, please try the troubleshooting steps outlined here.
    4. Clicking on the device will bring up the passcode entry screen in the main navigation area. Type in the passcode from step 5b and the pairing process will begin.
    5. Once the pairing process has completed successfully, the AirSync icon will change to a down arrow and additional icons will appear below your device.
    6. For most modern devices, transcoding/conversion will not be needed for MP3 and AAC/M4A files. Here is a list of formats that doubleTwist Pro v3 supports.
      You can disable transcoding by right-clicking and then enabling the 'Disable Transcoder For Device' option. This will transmit the files as-is to your device without conversion. However, if you have files in Apple Lossless (ALAC) format, you do not want to disable transcoding as our Music Player app is not capable of playing ALAC files yet. Please do not enable this option if you are trying to sync files in Apple Lossless or any other incompatible format.
  6. With your Android device paired to your Mac and appearing as a drive, you can now setup the sync process.
    1. doubleTwist for Mac OSX now recognizes your Android device and displays it in the left hand navigation.
    2. Click on the “Sync music to device”. The default is to sync “All Music”. You can also sync only selected playlists by clicking on “Selected Playlists:”
    3. Click “Sync” to begin the sync process.
  7. After the sync completes, the music and playlists will then appear in doubleTwist Pro v3 on your Android device.

Just days after announcing plans to sell a $399 computer capable of running Mac OS X, a Miami company had already temporarily shuttered its online store while changing its physical address multiple times.

The online store for Psystar, which is offering an OS X-compatible product it bills as Open Computer, was down for a good part of Wednesday. A note on the company’s Web site cited an inability to process credit card purchases as the reason for the closure.

As this story was posted Wednesday evening, Psystar’s online store had reopened.

But that was just one twist in the increasing convoluted saga of the company that hopes to sell a Mac clone in apparent challenge to Apple’s end user license agreement for OS X 10.5. Readers of Gizmodo, a technology Web site, checked on the physical address listed for Psystar on the company’s Web site—a challenging task since that address listing has changed three times over the last few days.

The first address for Psystar led readers to a residential neighborhood, while the second was for a packing supply company where representatives of the packing company had never heard of Psystar.

Since Gizmodo’s initial report, the address listed on Psystar’s Web site had changed a third time to an address about 10 miles from Miami International Airport.

Psystar entered the limelight Monday when it announced plans to sell OS X-equipped hardware for “less than a fourth” of the cost of a high-end Mac. The basic configuration offered by the company features a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo E4500 Processor, 2GB of RAM, and an integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics processor.
