Our take
Mac users tend to do things their own way. You’ve opted for the non-mainstream computer hardware, so using the native installed Safari browser seems in character. Putting that aside, Mac owners should dig into what they really use their web browsers for, and determine if data privacy or features is more important to them. Better yet, why not have two browsers?

I just had the same issue(s) with a new ASUS disk drive. I can't get a new LG SP80NB80 to work with either my new MacBook Pro 16' (OS 10.15.6) or my old Dell Vista laptop.
The consensus with the ASUS was that it would only work with 64 bit Vistas, and mine despite being top of the line XPS 1500 in 2008, is only 32bit. The computer saw both drives, but would not run the ASUS, and for the LG it just says driver loading failed.
Okay, so apparently no one is making 32bit compatible dvd drives anymore. Since the internal optical drive can't be repaired or replaced (according to Office Depot), the Dell is a problem because when I have trouble with its software, I can't just reload off its original system disks like usual. That's why I needed an external disk drive for it... it bluetooth sees its wireless mouse, but refuses to run its program.

That aside, I have this new MacBook and figured I'd get an external disk drive that would work with both machines; a relative that works at Apple suggested a less expensive one rather than Apple's SuperDrive animal. The ASUS was higher reviewed than this LG. When it didn't work, I returned it to Amazon and went to Best Buy's Apple techs for advice. They thought this LG would work.
So why does this LGUltraSlim Portable DVD Writer just sit there and click when connected to the MacBook? The computer's Disk Utility does not see the drive at all, but apparently feeds it enough power for the green light to flash and for it to click every second. When I put the included Media Suite disk in the drive, nothing happens, and I have to repeatedly and firmly press the eject button to get it to open again. The same thing happened with the ASUS drive.
Could it be the simple 'nonda' brand USB-C to USB 3.0 adapter that I got to plug a USB A cord into a lightning-only computer? I have a Mokin multi-use bus that when put between the MacBook and the LG drive results in no lamp and no click at all.
Is every Apple user running into this issue? Is there a drive that will run on the XPS 1500 Vista 32bit machine? I've spent fruitless hours with the two drive options trying to configure the computers to use them. Apple techs have been no help as yet. Is the SuperDrive my only sure bet for the Mac? It's sure been aggravating.

I have the same problem. My LG Ultra Slim Portable DVD Writer GP60 works fine with my older MacBook Pro running 10.13 High Sierra but it does not work with my newer MacBook Pro running 10.13 Catalina. Sometimes it won't open a DVD at all, sometimes it will actually start playing the DVD but it does very strange things and the DVD Player app does not work. Usually can't eject the disk.
I have the same issue with my brand new GP65NS60 and MacBook Pro running BigSur Version 11.1. I cannot find an install program on the media disc.
I'm using a GP65NS60 on a MacBook Pro (16-inch, 2019) with Big Sur. It worked fine with Catalina using any adaptor but didn't appear after Big Sur until I tried all of my adaptors..
It didn't work with a simple (1:1) Apple adaptor.
It didn't work with a 3rd party simple (1:1) adaptor.
It works with a UNITEX adaptor, don't know the model but it is USB only (3:1).
